What Sucks about Having a Startup Blog
Posted on 18. Dec, 2008 by Julius.
There are more and more blogs created each day. Most of the people starting a new blog do not know how difficult and time consuming it is to create a somewhat professional blog.
I myself started this blog several months ago and it is starting to get better each day but there are still a lot of aspects that bother me about not yet having a well-known blog.
No Testing Possible
Because your blog is still small, changing parts of your layout or sentences around and then measuring the changes will not give you an idea if it worked well or not. There are so few people on your blog that your whole data could be influenced by the behaviour of a number of people. Because of this testing is only possible with rather well-known blogs.
Polls Are Inaccurate
Another aspect related to prior one, is that polls are inaccurate. The reason why they are inaccurate is the same as mentioned above, few people are visiting your blog. I actually once read that you had to have at least 38 responses to get statistically correct data. Even if that is the case I like to have more people responding to get a more accurate picture of the situation.
Knowing Your Articles are Useful But No One Gets to See Them
I think this happens to a lot of people. I myself always know whether my article will be a success or not. When I know that it is a good article it just bothers me to know that so few people get to read it.
Not Knowing the Right People
This is another problem about being relatively new to blogging, you do not know a lot of other bloggers. Take a look at Darren Rowse from Problogger. He just recently started a new blog called TwiTip, I think it was about a month ago, and now he has already 3000 subscribers.
What do you think? What bothers you about having a rather small blog? What would you add to the list?

Hi, I'm Julius. I first started blogging over two years ago and it's been a rough ride, yet I made it. On And Break I hope to provide you with information that will make your ride more smooth.

Unfortunately, blogging is just like any other skill set. No one is BORN a blogger – it’s something you have to learn how to do. Most of the time – we learn by FAILING first – which is no fun!!!
That’s why I created my 8 Week Power Blog Launch course – because blogging is easy – but creating a successful blog is HARD! I created it to help my clients learn what they needed to do BEYOND just creating posts to make their blog a success.

It is true you learn the skills necessary over time but I think you almost only learn through failing. I do not even have a problem with failing but as I said in the post with the internet it just takes a long time to become a successful blogger except if you know the right people.
I think it is also important to fail because through failing you are much more creative trying to solve problems etc. By the way now I have just gotten an idea about a new post
thanks Kathy
